Golf Croquet
Overview
The North Carolina Club Teams Championship is a Golf Croquet (GC) doubles tournament, to be held on six courts in the Linville area. Play will begin the morning of Thursday, August 3, to conclude by mid-afternoon on Sunday, August 6. Play is doubles only, in two or more flights. Expect to play 3-4 games per day.
Eligibility and entry allocation
There is no residency requirement however all players
must be a member of a NC Croquet Club. Each entry must be a doubles pair, with both players current members of the same USCA-affiliated NC croquet club and of the USCA. (NC residents who are At-Large members of the USCA may enter for the At-Large team.) Space is limited to 48 entries (i.e., 96 players). The
Team Allocation Date is Monday, July 10. If the tournament is over-subscribed on that date, a limit on team size will be applied, and the club(s) with the largest teams will be asked to choose which entries to move to the waiting list. If the tournament is not over-subscribed as of the Team Allocation Date, entry will continue on a first-come, first-served basis, up to the final entry deadline of Monday, July 24.
Flight assignments will be based on the average world ranking or USCA handicap of the two players. (Exception: an entry with a large handicap or ranking difference will play in the flight appropriate for the higher-ranked player, as determined by the Tournament Director.) Players without USCA handicaps or world rankings will be assigned to flights by the Tournament Director.
Details
Each entry will represent their NC croquet club in the Penwell Trophy competition. Points are awarded for each match win, with bonus points for wins in the main knockout rounds. The club with the most points is the winner and will have their name inscribed on the trophy (no other trophies will be awarded).
The tournament fees include beverage service and lunch each day, including the Finals Brunch, and the Tournament Dinner.
If you wish to bring a guest to the dinner only, the cost is $85. Please contact the USCA office.
Dinner will be at the View 180 on Thursday night approx. 6:30 -7:00pm, which is their formal restaurant and this is what their dress code states:
Dinner: Jacket requested, collared polos, and dress shirts.
Slacks, dark shade or white dress denim in excellent repair, no casual blue jeans.
Appropriate length dresses, skirts.
Closed toed shoes for men.
No hats
Tournament registration will be at Linville Ridge, Wednesday August 2, from 4:00 to 6:00. Practice courts will be available from 4:00 to 6:00 at all three clubs (Linville Ridge, Linville Golf, and Grandfather).
The team competition for the Penwell Trophy is scored as follows: winning a block or consolation match earns your team 1 point. In the main knockouts in each flight, a quarterfinal match win is 2 points, semifinal is 3 points, final is 4 points. If there is tie for first place, the team with the highest-placed finisher in Championship Flight wins. If neither team had an entry in Championship Flight, the trophy will be shared.
