Sandwich Croquet Club
The 2026 Northeast Regional American Rules 6 Wicket Tournament was held August 7 - 9 at Sandwich Hollows Golf Club, home of the Sandwich Croquet Club, East Sandwich, Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The weather was in the mid to mid-high 80s all three days ~ luckily no rain. Players stayed well hydrated throughout.
The tournament was singles only in two flights: Championship (0 - 5) and First Flight (6 - 11). There were
eight players in each flight block with the top four finishers in each going into a single knockout semi-final.
First Flight single banked throughout on two courts while Championship Flight double banked on one court.
In the end, top seed Courtney Green (0) of Sandwich Croquet Club won Championship Flight with George Claffey (4.5) of Lenox Croquet Club as Finalist. In First Flight, top seed Michael Sayler (6) of Sandwich Croquet Club was the winner with Debbie Martin (7) of Lenox Croquet Club as Finalist. Significant tracking point gains were made by Neville Boschert (5) +25, Karen Kay (11) +20, Larry Schmutz (11) +20, and George Claffey (4.5) +15.
Sandwich Croquet Club members Ed Gardella and Frank DiLeo set the wickets each morning ~ a huge task to make a tournament a success!!
Tournament Manager Kathleen Green and Assistant Tournament Manager Courtney Green did an extraordinary job of seeing to each detail that makes a tournament such as this a huge success. Wonderful breakfast items, juices, plenty of water, wonderful sandwiches at lunch and pizza on Sunday were well received! I And what a treat ice cream cones and ice cream sandwiches were in the hot afternoon!! And let me not forget to mention cookies and energy bars available too!
