2025 Southeast GC Regional

The 2025 USCA Southeast Regional was held at the beautiful Albemarle Croquet Club in Belvidere, North Carolina September 11-14. The very competitive field consisted of 32 players, 16 in Championship Flight with an average dgrade of 1961, and 16 in First Flight with an average dgrade of 1672. The playing slots were all filled by members of the Southeast Region, leaving a waitlist of 19 players.
Kent Lovvorn won the Championship Singles, defeating finalist Jim Jamison in two games. Just prior to the Championship finals, Jim and wife Barbara Jamison squared off in the Championship Doubles finals against Rick Brown and Todd Russell, winning the game with Jim’s hoop-12 jump shot. Brett Stovall captured the hand-crafted and coveted Championship Plate (and the brownie that went with it!)
Brett’s son Charlie Stovall won the First Flight singles, defending his win at the 2024 Regional. After a narrow 7-6 defeat by First Flight Finalist Dick Rendleman, Charlie battled back 7-4, 7-2 to take the best of three match. Dick and wife Nancy Rendleman won the First Flight doubles, defeating First Flight doubles finalists Linda Trifone and Brian Zindel. Adrienne Lucke won the First Flight Plate.
Regional Vice President Linda Trifone presided over the games. Adam Lassiter was Tournament Manager and Elaine Smith was Tournament Director. Kent Lovvorn served as head referee, assisted by Lynda Bjorklund and Crayton Morrow.
The main tournament dinner was a shared meal at the Cypress Creek Grill in Elizabeth City, NC. This was a particularly enjoyable and entertaining group of players, many of whom were experiencing the Albemarle hospitality for the first time. Other meals and snacks were shared in the lovely clubhouse (hand-built by the Lassiter Family), which became especially inviting in the afternoons when filled with the aroma of Miss Lynn’s homemade cookies and brownies.
