Davidoff and Bromley Capture Milwaukee GC Doubles Open

With the shimmering waters of Lake Michigan as a picturesque backdrop, the Milwaukee Croquet Club held its inaugural Milwaukee GC Doubles Open Aug. 15 – 17, 2025. The event brought together 24 players from across the Midwest and beyond for a weekend of great competition and Midwest hospitality.
After two days of block play to determine the top two teams to head into the semi-finals, the final order in one of the blocks was determined by just one net hoop! Remaining teams competed in the Plate (consolation) and Back draw.
Debbie Davidoff and Cheryl Bromley, of Florida and Wisconsin, and both Milwaukee Croquet Club members, teamed up to take top honors dropping only one game enroute to the title. They were undefeated in block play and then followed up with a solid win in the semi-finals defeating the Milwaukee team of Drew Kennedy and Keith Anderson who had held a strong position coming out of the blocks. In the Final, Davidoff and Bromley faced off against Ponte Vedra Croquet Club’s MaryCarol and Marc Stearns who had captured a 7-5 semi-final win against Maggie Leyes (Milwaukee) and Rick Hayes (Chicago Croquet Club) pictured below.

Spectators seated around the lawn witnessed fine shot-making throughout the Final with game one going to team Stearns as they took the first in the best-of-three game match 7-4. Davidoff and Bromley regrouped and never looked back with a strong 7-0, 7-3 finish to close it out.
With time winding down, the Plate featured a series of quick knockout matches and a shoot-out to the peg to determine the final order. Barb and Tom O’Laughlin of the Chicago Croquet Club edged out Milwaukee’s Mary and Tom Hennelly in the finals of the Plate to capture the title. Milwaukee’s Kath Jenkins and Kathy Rivera went on to the win the Back draw playoffs.
